Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, educators will be able to: 1. Analyze Ethical Pillars: Evaluate scenarios involving AI use in education and research by applying the four core ethical principles (Transparency, Accountability, Fairness & Equity, and Human-Centric Design) to identify potential risks and benefits. 2. Mitigate Algorithmic Bias: Identify and correct instances of subtle bias and factual inaccuracy ("hallucinations") in AI-generated content (such as quiz questions or patient cases), using a structured fact-checking workflow and credible, authoritative sources. 3. Develop Responsible Policies: Formulate and communicate clear, reasonable, and enforceable classroom policies for student use of AI by integrating strategies for promoting academic integrity (e.g., designing "AI-proof" assignments) and requiring evidence of critical thinking and verification. 4. Ensure Data Security & Privacy: Differentiate between secure institutional AI and public-facing AI tools, and apply best practices for data anonymization to prevent the unauthorized input of confidential or personally identifiable information (PII) like patient or student data. 5. Model and Embed Ethical Behavior: Integrate discussions of AI ethics, existing ethical frameworks, and responsible use into existing curriculum, and model transparent, reflective practices to cultivate a community-wide ethos of ethical AI use within their professional environment.
